Honorable Chairs, fellow delegates, hardworking ad-staff and lovely press…

These were clearly some of the 15 delegates of Australia and Brazil most mentioned words during their week at MunoM (Model United Nations of Munich). But let’s start at the beginning!

Our journey started on Monday, the 17th of November, at the train station in Knittelfeld. After 6 or 7 (get the reference?) hours on the train, the delegates finally arrived in Munich. Once they had checked-in at the lovely Hotel Augustin, their afternoons were spent pretty differently.

While some of us honored their first sip of Spezi, the others had a bit of a workout session by climbing the “Alter Peter” tower. The delegates then let the evening end by having dinner together at the Hofbräuhaus and enjoying Bavarian specialties.

It’s Tuesday and the conference has officially started. After a delicious breakfast, the delegates made their way to the “Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung”, where 14 different schools (in fact, only two from Austria) participated and were ready to debate. Lobbying was on the agenda and the first interaction with the other countries took place, where the pupils were able to demonstrate their knowledge about each country. Lobbying was interrupted by the opening ceremony, in which all countries celebrated the start of the 22nd annual session of MunoM - clapping was definitely in order there!

…Raise your placards high and… now! (In fact, everyone raised it before the “now”, no front chairs) It’s Wednesday and the committees were officially in session. Some of us raised their placard, others a “few” Spezis. Anyway, the day was full of heated debates and fruitful discussions about different topics on the agenda, depending on the respective committee we were in. The evening program was shaped by a visit into yet another “dimension”. The delegates of Australia and Brazil were split up into teams and played against each other in a virtual reality world. Point of personal privilege: We have to do this again some time soon!

Thursday was picture day! Each and every committee did a group picture and also one with all the delegates and chairs. The delegates were “awarded” with a typical Bavarian pretzel – yummy! After a lot of resolutions had been discussed and voted upon, the school day was over and everyone was excited for the upcoming event – the MunoM party. That’s basically a get together of all the delegates from every school accompanied by fantastic bangers (music). Of course, alcohol was not in order but instead we were welcomed by a monitor saying “Glas Leitungswasser 1€”.

It's the last day and the mood is as expected – sad and already nostalgic :-(. Today, the whole General Assembly, as well as the Economic and Social Council, were each one big conference and the passed resolutions were now discussed with all the delegates. But sadly, everything comes to an end and we had to yield the floor back to the chairs and make our way back to Knittelfeld with lots of Spezi and endless memories.

One thing is for sure: We, the delegates of Australia and Brazil, wish to speak in favor of this journey!
